Buen libro sobre bilingüismo/ Great book about bilingualism

ENGLISH

Many studies have shown that up til the age of 10, children can learn a second language almost as easily as their mother tongue and without an accent. Perhaps your child or student only says two or three words in the second language and appears to speak less than other children his own age, but if you add the words he know in the first language to the words he knows in the second language, your child or student probably has a normal language development. For its organization and innumerable reference to recent studies, I recommend the book The Bilingual Edge, written by King and Mackey, where you will find more information about bilingualism.

I am also a mother of two bilingual Spanish-English kids. When looking for a book about bilingualism to help me with them I also found the book The Bilingual Edge. It is a reely great book! I was especially intrigued by the research showing that bilinguals tend to be more creative and have more sophisticated thought processes. However, the authors are careful to emphasize that this advantage is only present for true bilinguals, that is, those who have an advanced proficiency in more than one language.

Hi Bri,
Great blog. I just bought a copy of The Bilingual Edge and am ready to sink my teeth into it. I have read most of the books you have on your bilingual book list (see my blog for others). I also recommend "Growing Up with Two Langages" by Una Cunningham-Andersson. It's a good non-academic book about raising kids bilingually. I also recommend "A Parents and Teachers Guide to Bilingualism" by Colin Baker.

Looking forward to seeing more of you and your little guy at playgroup meetings!
